Backyard Transformation: South Jordan, Utah
This South Jordan homeowner had a large backyard with nothing in it — flat grass, no structure, no personality. They wanted an outdoor space that felt like an extension of their home. Somewhere to entertain, relax, and actually use. They came to Wasatch Dreamscapes with a vision and left with something better than they imagined.
The Challenge: The yard had significant slope changes that made standard landscaping difficult. Drainage was a problem and the existing lawn was patchy and uneven. The homeowners wanted a patio, a water feature, and defined planting areas — all tied together cohesively without feeling overcrowded.
The Solution: We started by regrading the yard to solve the drainage issues and create natural level transitions between spaces. A custom paver patio was installed off the back of the home using large format concrete pavers in a warm grey tone that complemented the home's exterior. A natural stone retaining wall was built along the slope to create defined planting beds filled with drought-tolerant Utah native plants. A recirculating water feature was installed in the corner — a stacked stone waterfall that brings sound and movement to the space. New sod was laid across the remaining lawn area and a sprinkler system was installed throughout to keep everything thriving with minimal effort.
The Result: The homeowners went from a yard they never used to an outdoor living space they use every weekend. The water feature became the centerpiece of the design and the paver patio comfortably seats their family for outdoor dining and entertaining. The drainage issues are completely resolved and the yard has stayed healthy and green through its first full season.
